Question: What are the cafeteria options?
Answer: Pre-Kindergarten are required by the State of Georgia to be served a lunch provided by the school. Kindergarten through 8th grade may buy lunch or bring it from home. Lunch payments are due on the first of the month. Lunch is $2.00 a day. Payments are sent for the number of days a student will eat during that month. Applications for reduced and free lunch may be obtained at the school office. No cans, bottles, or sodas may be brought from home. Saint Peter Claver School does not offer a breakfast program.
Question: What types of extracurricular activities are offered?
Answer: Students in grades K-8 may serve on the Student Council. Students may also join the yearbook staff, the computer club, the basketball team, the cheerleading squad, the service club, or the band. Social activities are provided for the students at least once every other month
Question: What is the average class size?
Answer: Class size ranges from 15-25. The average class size is 20.
Question: Are scholarships/financial aid available?
Answer: Parents who desire financial aid must interview with the principal. A review of their documented income and expenditures will occur. Proof of income must be brought to the interview. A decision will be reached after the interview is conducted.
Question: What is the homework policy?
Answer: Homework is used as a reinforcement of skills learned in school. Students in grades K-5 average 30-45 minutes. Students in grades 6-8 average 2 hours of homework.
Question: What is the length of the school day?
Answer: School begins at 8:00am and ends at 3:20pm. Morning Supervision begins at 7:45am.
Question: What supplies do students need?
Answer: Each class has different supply needs. Supply lists can be obtained from the office.
Question: What type of discipline is employed?
Answer: The school strives to maintain discipline that reflects the ideals of the gospel, and helps the individual student to be responsible and accountable for his/her actions. Approved methods of student correction include reminders, conferences with the principal or teacher and parents, withholding privileges, reparation for damages, after school detention, suspension, or expulsion. Corporal punishment is never permitted. Specific rules and policies may be found in the handbook.
Question: Does the school offer transportation?
Answer: The school has no transportation means; all transportation is the responsibility of the parent.
Question: Do you have to be Catholic to attend?
Answer: St. Peter Claver School welcomes all students regardless of their religious beliefs.
Question: Does the school have a before and after school program?
Answer: The Extended Day program is licensed by the Department of Human Services. Hours of operation are Mornings: 7:00am-8:00am & Afternoons: 3:15pm-6:00pm.
Question: How are emergency school closings communicated?
Answer: Emergency closings are announced on Channel 13 TV and Channel 99 WAYS on FM radio.
Question: What safety measures are taken by the school?
Answer: All staff members are trained in emergency procedures. All visitors must report to the office. On site counseling is provided for students with special concerns.
Question: Do you have any programs for students with learning disabilities?
Answer: Saint Peter Claver does not offer any special education services. Students who are less than one year below grade level may be offered academic assistance through our Title I program.
