Academics at Saint Peter Claver School

Saint Peter Claver School Community believes as did Saint Katharine Drexel that "education is linked to our salvation." The Good News of Jesus Christ must continually be integrated into our human culture so that our knowledge is supported by our faith, our wisdom is built upon our hope, and our actions are rooted in our love. Thus, all learning is directly linked with our living as God's children. Every subject and curriculum area affords students the opportunity to discover, appreciate, and value God's gifts in the creation of the world, in one another, and in themselves. We learn so that we may love God with all our heart, mind, body and soul.

The school curriculum at Saint Peter Claver School includes the following area of study:

  • Religion
  • Language Arts (Reading, Spelling, English, Phonics/Vocabulary)
  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • Computer Technology
  • Art
  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Library Science

Curriculum Standards:
The curriculum of Saint Peter Claver School is determined first and foremost by the curriculum standards and guidelines promulgated by the Diocese of Savannah for every curriculum area. The principal and the faculty are responsible for implementing these standards in every grade level. The faculty is also responsible for collaborating with one another and with parents to address the needs of every student according to their abilities.

Accreditation and Evaluation:
In June of 2006, the Florida Catholic Conference renewed Saint Peter Claver School’s official accreditation status. This renewal came after the school completed a two-year school improvement process culminating in a visit from FCC members to evaluate the school’s mission, staff, instructional program and facilities. The FCC Visiting Team applauded Saint Peter Claver School for:

  • A comprehensive academic program.
  • Its growth and expansion over the past 4 years
  • the dedication of the staff to providing a strong academic education
  • creating a high culture of expectations for all students

Likewise, the school developed academic goals for the next seven years. These goals will be reached as dedicated teachers, committed parents, concerned community members, and responsible students work together for excellence.

School Goals:

  1. To strive for excellence and quality work in student assignments.
  2. To increase students’ development of critical thinking skills.
  3. To augment student responsibility and leadership.
